Sam has been adopted,
Hey there – I’m Sam and I LOVE the outside…especially the snow, but any old walk, any old time of day, in any kind of weather is just fine by me. And if we can’t walk all day, I am happy to sit on the balcony and watch the action as it passes me by.
I’m still learning my leash manners, so it will really help if you are a very patient & strong owner. I’m weighing in at just over 90 pounds, so it’s a big task to walk me and since I am still rather young (1 & 1/2 year-old neutered male) I want to play, play, play!!!
I know how to: sit, paw, down, this way, leave it, and wait. That said just because I know them, doesn’t mean that I always listen or follow your command. I’m still a pup; treats help me remember these commands. ..if you know what I mean, and I think you do.
I like my bed, it’s an extra-large kennel with comfy blankets. I like it so much that when it’s time to “rest” or “go to bed”, I will happily go in (with a little help from a treat or two & my toys). Therefore, I guess that means that I am crate-trained – whatever that means to you two-pawed-people. I sleep through the night for the most part, and I don’t make a mess in my bed. Who would? I have had a few ”accidents” in the house before, but it was as my current keeper was learning my potty schedule; she’s gotten much better about that now, and we’ve been mess-free J
I’ve had a very difficult few weeks before coming to the Way of the Paw, so they are introducing me to people and pets on a slow basis to make sure everyone is comfortable. I am afraid that I might be left alone for long periods of time, and that scares me. I like knowing that I can trust others and that they can trust me.
I haven’t had the chance with really play with any other pups since I’ve been here. I have met one of the smaller dogs, and she smells really good. I’d like to play with her, but she’s on the older side and I wouldn’t want to accidently bowl her over. As soon as I am ready, we’re going to introduce me to some new friends to see how well behaved I am, but that hasn’t happened just yet (02/23/2012). Not sure about cats or kittens yet either. I haven’t seen any, so I don’t know how I will react to them just yet.
I’m a work in progress…a diamond in the rough. I will thrive in a home where my owners are at home most of the day. I think I would like a brother or sister, because I do have a lot of energy and will need to work it off throughout the day. An active life-style is preferred, as well as a big backyard. I like to play with squeaky toys and balls. Oh, and if you must leave me at the house while you run errands, I am big fan of Billie Holiday.
